Median Cable Barriers Installed on I-65
Posted: 31-Aug-2012 1:19AM CDT

From Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways District 4:

I-65 Safety Improvements Will Begin Next Week South Of Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (May 25, 2012) – Median cable barriers are being installed along a two-lane section of Interstate 65 from the Hart/LaRue County line extending north approximately six miles into Hardin County (MP 74 – MP 80).  Once this work is completed, continuous cross over crash prevention measures will be in place from the current three-lane widening project in Barren County to just south of Elizabethtown.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded George B. Stone Company, LLC the project contract on April 27th of this year in the amount of $368,440.  Ninety percent of the contract amount is federally funded.

Work is expected to begin on Tuesday, allowing Memorial Day Weekend travelers to pass through the area without lane closures.  During the project, northbound and southbound inside shoulders will be closed.  Left (inside) lane closures will also be in place for both directions while contract crews pour concrete for the project.  Lane closures will only be allowed from 8pm Sunday through 11am Thursday.  All lanes will be open for weekend traffic, however shoulders will remain closed and workers may still be present.  Northbound and Southbound delays will be possible Monday through Wednesday during peak afternoon traffic hours.  Traffic updates are available at 511.ky.gov or from your phone by dialing 511.

Motorists are reminded that speed limits are reduced from 70 to 55mph through the work zone and double fines are in effect.

The project agreement specifies that to avoid penalties, the contractor must complete the median cable barrier installation by June 26th, 2012.

[Cover of the 2003 Official Highway Map]The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet released the 2003 version of the official highway map on May 29. There were no apparent major changes over the previous year's, except for the fact that on June 10, the map was modified to show the former Daniel Boone Parkway as the Hal Rogers Parkway.

The map is now available in rest areas. I picked up a copy at the Paducah Welcome Center yesterday. The cover art is a photograph of the William H. Natcher Bridge.
