I-264/U.S. 42 Improvement Project Traffic Advisory: Upcoming Directional Weekend Closures of I-264 Beginning Friday, Oct. 16
Weekend closures scheduled for I-264 to support paving operations
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 13, 2026) – As work continues to advance on the $130 million widening and improvement project of Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) and U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road) in Louisville [Outside Link], the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming directional weekend closures of I-264.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19:
  • I-264 East will be closed from mile point 20.7 at KY 1447 (Westport Road) to the I-264/I-71 split. Motorists should plan to detour by taking I-64 East to I-265 North to I-71 South to continue on I-71 South or I-264 West to reach destinations within the closure area.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26:
  • I-264 West will be closed at the I-264/I-71 split to mile marker 21 at KY 1447 (Westport Road). The I-264 West on-ramp from KY 1447 (Westport Road) will remain open. Motorists should plan to detour by taking I-71 North to I-265 South to I-64 West to reconnect with I-264 West, or by taking I-64 East to reach destinations within the closure area.
The weekend closures of I-264 are necessary to allow contract crews to complete asphalt paving operations. As work progresses, traffic will be moved from the outside lanes to the inside lanes throughout the entire project corridor.
The interstate project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027. The work is being carried out by Cleary Construction Inc. of Monroe County, Kentucky. More details, including project timelines and traffic impacts [Outside Link], will be shared online as work progresses. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for email and text alerts [Outside Link] regarding weekly traffic impacts pertaining to the project.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
