Transportation Cabinet to Hold Public Meeting Nov. 17 for Proposed Improvements for I-71 and I-264 Interchange
Public invited to provide comments on safety and mobility changes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 27, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to present preliminary design concepts for the Interstate 71/Interstate 264 interchange improvement project in Jefferson County. The preliminary design concepts being presented at the upcoming public meeting were developed based on findings from the 2021 planning study.
The meeting will be an open-house event with no formal presentation from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST at Dunn Elementary School, 2010 Rudy Lane, Louisville, KY 40207. Those who are interested can attend at any time to review the preliminary design concepts, receive handouts containing project information, and provide comments regarding potential improvement concepts. Representatives from KYTC and the engineering design consultant will be in attendance to answer questions.
The project aims to enhance traffic flow and safety along I-71 while supporting more reliable travel throughout the regional interstate system. Potential improvements are being evaluated to enhance visibility and create a more intuitive interchange layout for drivers traveling along northbound I-71 as well as improve traffic movements approaching the interchange.
The concepts are still under consideration as engineers evaluate potential benefits, costs and impacts, along with existing roadway conditions, environmental considerations and community input. The Nov. 17 public meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to review potential design concepts and share feedback. An online survey will be available during the public meeting and remain open for 30 days afterward. Feedback received will help inform the project team’s ongoing preliminary design work and the selection of a preferred alternative to advance to the final design phase.
All written comments will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an Open Records Request has been received and approved. All Open Record Requests must be submitted to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Legal Services, Transportation Office Building (200 Mero St., Frankfort, KY 40622), or via kytc.openrecords@ky.gov.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), if anyone has a disability and requires assistance, please notify KYTC no later than Tuesday, November 10. Please call (502)764-0481 or mail your request to the KYTC District 5 Office, 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40242.
